LinkedIn Series: #8

Hi! I'm Roxy. I have a background in math education, library and information science, web development, as well as content creation. I am most proud of my Tube Feed Tracker web app that is used by a niche part of the medical community around the world daily. I've spoken at conferences, appeared on podcasts, and was a guest on season 2 of CodeTV's Web Dev Challenge. I love learning, teaching, and having fun in tech. :)
March 2025: Day 8 of treating LinkedIn like a blog. :)
It's been a week! I've already had (some number??) of official and unofficial meetings with my Dallas Software Developer cohort team. We've been busy! This definitely feels like a "drinking from a firehose" situation, but it's already been a huge learning experience in regards to the subject matter as well as myself.
We've split off into front end and back end teams. I'd like to observe some back end meetings, but am definitely of the front end crew. Since meeting with the smaller portion of my team I am feeling more comfortable admitting when I am confused, and asking questions. They've all been so helpful and supportive.
My biggest win has been UNDERSTANDING what my front end team is talking about when we're pair programming in React. My teammates are so patient, communicative, and kind. They are a huge part of my learning journey. I haven't driven yet but I've made helpful comments and been able to follow along and provide helpful research about component libraries. The relief! I was so proud of myself.
Another surprise discovery occurred when I popped in to help one of my leads interview a "potential customer" for the product we are building. I did some previous research about possible pain points and was able to ask useful questions on the fly alongside my lead, while taking detailed notes. And dang, so many life experiences overlap with most of this project in general. Core Skills for the win!
The only non-surprise was when I misunderstood what a wireframe is and created a mockup instead. I really liked styling the landing page, brainstorming a punny title and logo, as well as organizing everything on the page. The spacing has to be just right. I've always been creative, now it's time to transfer it to the keys.
Anyway, things are pickin' up speed real quick...my apologies for the rollercoaster I'm fixin' to take you on. :)
Photos...Trying to keep styling myself on little sleep while finding time anywhere to get my cohort "homework" done (at my daughter's swim class, for example...or a kids' birthday party...lol).
